Australia is such an amazing country that people from all around the world love to come to study, work or travel here. If you are one of them, here are the visas you may need.






Student visa (subclass 500)


This visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to 5 years to study full-time in a recognised education institution.​

You must:

  • be at least six years of age
  • have been accepted to study at an educational institution in Australia
  • have health insurance.

If you are under 18, you must have organised appropriate welfare arrangements for the duration of your intended stay in Australia.

If you are applying from outside Australia, you must include a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for each intended course of study with your visa application. A letter of offer from your education provider will not be accepted.

You need to have enough money that is genuinely available to you, to pay for your course fees, and travel and living costs for you and your accompanying family members while you are in Australia.

You might need to provide evidence of your financial capacity with your visa application.

Student Guardian visa (subclass 590)


This visa allows you to stay in Australia as the guardian of an international student younger than 18 years of age studying in Australia on a student visa.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be the student’s parent, legal guardian or relative
  • have enough money to support yourself and the student during your stay
  • be able to provide accommodation and other support
  • be at least 21 years of age.

You can only bring children under 6 with you; for children of 6 or older, they must apply for their own student visa.

Visitor visa (subclass 600)


This visa allows you to visit Australia (including for business visitor purpose) for up to 3, 6 or 12 months.

For PRC passport holders, they may be eligible for the Visitor Visa (subclass 600) Frequent Traveller stream visa which has a validity period of up to 10 years.

Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)


This visa allows you to visit Australia (including for business visitor purpose) as many times as you want for up a year and stay for up to 3 months for each visit.

To apply, you must hold an eligible passport. The eligible passports include those issued by most European countries, Canada, US, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, HK SAR and Taiwan.

Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)


This visa is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution.
It lets you live, study and work in Australia for up to 4 years after you have finished your studies.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be under 50 years of age
  • hold an eligible visa
  • have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course
  • meet additional requirements of the relevant stream

The qualification must either:

  • relate to an occupation on the skilled occupation list (Graduate Work stream)
  • be a higher education degree (Post-Study Work stream)

You must hold an eligible visa to apply for this visa as the primary applicant, and you can only access this visa once as a primary applicant.

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)


​​​​​This is a new visa subclass launched by the Australian government in Mar 2018 to replace the temporary work subclass 457 visa. TSS visa lets a skilled worker travel to Australia to work in their nominated occupation for their approved sponsor.

The TSS visa is comprised of two streams: short-term stream for those whose occupation is on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), and medium-term stream for those whose occupation is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or Regional Occupation List (ROL). A short-term stream TSS visa is valid for up to 2 years and can be extended once; while a medium-term stream TSS visa is valid for up to 4 years, and the visa holders can apply for permanent residency through subclass 186/187 visas after holding the visa for 3 years.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be sponsored by an approved business
  • have the required skills to fill a position nominated by an approved business.
